Mr. Martin's Ag students visit once a week to teach the third grade Ag Ed on the Move! The week of October 10th in 3rd grade Social Studies we are leaning about the regions in Missouri. Third graders were super excited to make the connection that they were learning to the MO Crops Lesson from the Ag Students. With the MO Crops Lesson third grade students were able to discuss the regions of Missouri again. In the activity for the lesson they use playdough to cut out the state of Missouri and used rice to identify the regions and cities! This has been a powerful learning experience for all involved! The Ag Ed on the Move curriculum aligned perfectly and the 3rd grade students were able to recognize this and take it a step farther in creating their models! The high school Ag Students have taught the kids so far about Corn, Soybeans, MO Crops, Soil, and Beef. They will learn about Dairy this week. Each of these lessons have a fun activity associated with them. Check back in after the 10 weeks of Ag Ed on the Move are over to see more on what was accomplished with this program.

On October 9, Union Star 8th grade Careers Class participated in the "On My Own Program" offered by the University of Missouri Extension Office. The simulation was designed by the University of Tennessee Extension, and it offers hypothetical scenarios in which students can gain real-life skills needed to balance a budget based on a chosen career path. Throughout the simulation, students were acting as the major income providers in their households (which may have included a spouse and/or children). Using a hypothetical their occupation's income, they navigate a month's worth of expensive which include housing, utilities, transportation, insurance, food, childcare, clothing, entertainment, and expenses from unexpected events. In order to make the event a success, several local community members volunteered their time to service as commodity workers. Therefore, we would love to acknowledge the following people who assisted in creating this wonderful learning experience: Rick & Mandy Hontz, Sherri Miller, Mike Tritten, Rick Calloway, Brad Veale, Stacy Nold, Deputy Kasie Ortiz, Lila Jackson, Branda Howard, Wanda Workman, and Danyell Wiederholt.

FBLA had the opportunity to attend "A Day in the Life of a Business Major" at Northwest Missouri State University on October 1st. The students got to participate in a Finance class and a Negotiations class. They also got a tour of the campus and participated in a question-and-answer panel with staff and students from the university. This was a great opportunity for students to get a feel for what college life might be like!
